I’ve never felt so lucky as I have the past few days as the northern lights danced across the skies for hours every night. Sailing down the coast of Labrador as I wrap up a summer season at sea, I’ve never seen such a stunning display of the aurora. Mindblown! Looks like we’re about to beamed up into another world 💚💜💙🩷💛

Grise Fjord’s name means “pig inlet” in Norwegian because when polar explorer Otto Sverdrup visited here in 1900, he thought that the walrus in the area sounded like pigs.

In Inuktitut the name for Grise Fiord is is Aujuittuq, “a place that never thaws.”

The average yearly temperature here is −16.5 °C.

Grise Fiord has a population of about 150.

Grise Fiord was created by the Canadian Government in 1953 when they forced Inuit families from Quebec to relocate here to assert sovereignty in the High Arctic during the Cold War.
