Sending massive love and props to my friends @projectjonahnz who are currently doing the hard mahi to rescue a group of pilot whales that have stranded on Farewell Spit. New Zealand has some of the highest stranding rates in the world, and Farewell Spit is a hotspot for them. I’m about to fly out to Antarctica otherwise I’d be up there helping. Follow @projectjonahnz and their FB page for updates and see if you can help out, even if it’s just donating. We almost wiped whales off the face of the earth in the last century. It’s time to pull our weight and help when we can 🐳 photo from the last whale stranding I was at in Farewell Spit.

I can’t look at photos from my time sailing the Northwest Passage with @adventure.canada without this Stan Rogers song meandering through my mind. What an adventure. I’m back on shore after three months at sea, with thousands of nautical miles exploring from St. John’s, Newfoundland to the top of the Arctic and back again under my belt. How is this my life?

Slowly I’m storing these incredible memories away, stories to be told with friends over beers about bears, belugas, ice, swells, songs and grins and just so many adventures and misadventures. So many RAW files to edit. So many reels to cut. So many stories to tap out with my fingers. You know, now that I can feel them again. Where to begin?
.
I’ll pick this simple day on the western shores of the Boothia Peninsula, around 70°N in the late afternoon. Not a hint of wind. Two polar bears roaming the faraway shores, diverting our landing. The sky slowly turning pink as I sat on my zodiac while the passengers were off hiking, laughing with my friends, far from any mobile coverage or real-life responsibilities. I’ve got mud on my knees and salt in my hair. And I’m just. so. freaking. happy.
