On my last day in Lanzarote, I decided to save the best for last and visit the beach that inspired my trip there. When I was deciding on what island to go to, I google imaged each one to see what they looked like. And when Lanzarote popped up on my screen, I squealed like a girl and immediately bought a ticket there. Papagayo beach shows up in just about every ad and tourist announcement for Lanzarote, and there is a good reason, it looks like something off of a postcard. Located on the south coast, east of a town called Playa Blanca (White Sand, what a great name for a town!), it was top on my list of must-sees around the tiny island. And let me tell you, it’s even more beautiful in person.
I drove down to Playa Blanca for a nice breakfast on the boardwalk. 9am and the sun was already shining, with the fish-white German and British tourists marking their territory on the beach. All I could think was how can you lay on this beach with Papagayo 20 minutes away? Over toast and eggs, I watched the ferries from the other islands come in and dock with the silhouette of Fuerteventura in the distance.

So cool that you live next to Papagayo, such a beautiful beach! It is a definite must-see if you ever make it to Lanzarote
A lovely post. My home almost backs on to Papagayo… and I walk my three dogs close by every day (never on the sandy areas though, as that’s illegal).
Keep your receipts when driving in, as after a couple they’ll spot you and let you in for free. Just tuck them somewhere on the left hand side of the dashboard where the fellas will see them.
Also – you can indeed walk here. Get to the Papagayo Arena hotel ikn the far eastern end of the resort and follow the signs. It takes you over a hill and down a slope to the first cove – I’ve done it a number of times now.
Remember also to take a packed lunch and some drink, as facilities are limited.
Enjoy!
