On my last day in Lanzarote, I decided to save the best for last and visit the beach that inspired my trip there. When I was deciding on what island to go to, I google imaged each one to see what they looked like. And when Lanzarote popped up on my screen, I squealed like a girl and immediately bought a ticket there. Papagayo beach shows up in just about every ad and tourist announcement for Lanzarote, and there is a good reason, it looks like something off of a postcard. Located on the south coast, east of a town called Playa Blanca (White Sand, what a great name for a town!), it was top on my list of must-sees around the tiny island. And let me tell you, it’s even more beautiful in person.
I drove down to Playa Blanca for a nice breakfast on the boardwalk. 9am and the sun was already shining, with the fish-white German and British tourists marking their territory on the beach. All I could think was how can you lay on this beach with Papagayo 20 minutes away? Over toast and eggs, I watched the ferries from the other islands come in and dock with the silhouette of Fuerteventura in the distance.
I’m in the middle of planning a few day getaway in April and Lanzarote is one of my three choices… if we go there I’ll definitely make sure to check out Playa Papagayo 🙂
I heard the same thing, but I was blown away by Lanzarote. I went on a whim too, and I loved it. I was so lucky. Incredible weather for February, hot and sunny every day, and warm enough to swim too! Make sure you rent a car!
I want to be there now! Looks amazing!
Awesome post! I’m going to Lanzarote in April, kind of on a whim. Everyone was saying, “oh Tenerife is better, you should go there” but it looks like Lanzarote will be equally beautiful.
